About Mercator
Mercator is an experiment by Tempo Labs that gives software agents one place to discover external services, compare current terms, compose multi-step work, and purchase results. It is designed for tasks that need fresh research, extraction, enrichment, communications, media, financial, travel, maps, or other API-backed actions. Search, service inspection, quoting, health checks, and result reads are free. A paid job starts only after Mercator returns an exact quote and the user or calling system accepts that amount.
Mercator exposes the same core system through a REST API and a remote MCP server. It validates each plan, binds payment approval to the quoted total, uses idempotency keys to prevent duplicate logical jobs, and keeps provider selection and payment handling behind the gateway. Hosted MCP connections use self-serve Tempo Wallet OAuth; the agent host receives an OAuth token rather than wallet private material. Mercator never asks an agent to reveal a private key.
The product is operated by Tempo Labs, the team building Tempo’s payments-first blockchain. Public technical behavior is documented in the Mercator documentation and machine-readable OpenAPI description. Availability is reported by the public health endpoint.
